Colin Makhubela is an award-winning Integrated Executive Creative Director with 18 years of industry experience — of which 9 have been in a leadership capacity (Group Head, CD and ECD) — with proven advertising capabilities in Digital and Traditional specialties as well as Broadcast Design and Streaming Video On-Demand (SVoD).

With a background in entertainment journalism, scriptwriting and copywriting, his experience has seen him test his conceptual and storytelling talents at renowned global, continental and local agencies such as Trigger Isobar, Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg, J. Walter Thompson Cape Town, DDB Johannesburg, Birthmark Design and Scanad Kenya, to name a few.

In addition to agency experience, he has worked as a Digital Content Specialist for leading sports apparel brand Nike SA, and formed part of the integrated team for Nike Run Jozi. 

Colin has had to privilege of plying his creative trade across the content: from Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria, for the United Nations Economic Commision for Africa (UNECA)  and in Lagos with J. Walter Thompson (LTC); Nairobi, Kenya, as a Group Creative Director for Scanad; and Maseru, Lesotho, as a freelance Documentarian for the US Aid.

One of his highlights was being the recipient of the prestigious David Reneé award for Pusha Love, an HIV/AIDS test drive campaign for the US AID (all executed in the Sesotho language).

He has worked (and lived) in Lesotho, Kenya and Nigeria, where he mentored upcoming talent and established codes of best practice for agencies, partner agencies and brands alike, and presided over industry award bodies i.e. MSK in his tenure.
